As part of our ongoing exploration of rhetorical practices, we will present a conference that explores the various ways in which the Tarzan legend has developed in popular since Edgar Rice Burroughs's original novel was published in 1914.

Some questions we might investigate are:

1. How has Tarzan changed over time, depending on the historical context?
2. How has Tarzan been adapted to different genres?How have critics and audiences responded to new and different Tarzans?
3. What has contributed to Tarzan's astoundingly successful marketability over the last century?
4. What can "new" Tarzans tell us about the logic or ideas that spawned the original Tarzan myth, and what do they tell us about ourselves?

For our presentation, we will be analyzing the original novel by Burroughs Tarzan of the Apes and the 1997 Disney film George of the Jungle directed by Sam Weisman.
